Multi Media campaign on Gestational Diabetes and its Management


A Multi Media Approach for Awareness Generation on Gestational Diabetes and its Management in selected districts of India - Joint initiative of Jagran Pehel and World Diabetes Foundation, Denmark -2010-12.

The Coverage

  • 4 States - Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Delhi
  • 7 Districts – Ranchi, Dhanbad, Saharanpur, Lucknow, Amritsar , Jalandhar and Delhi

Quantitative Outcome

  • 570053 people covering 373 rural and 168 urban spots were addressed on issue of GDM by community level awareness campaign through IEC Van intervention
  • 138468 girls were sensitized on issue of GDM through 428 school and 73 college based intervention
  • 3 National level , 2 State level and 13 District level workshops were organized as an advocacy initiative and 1333 participants actively involved in the workshop
  • Radio mantra in 2 FM station (Ranchi and Jalandhar) covered more than 154000 listeners
  • Micro site- covered more than 300000 viewers
  • 2 million SMS to mobile uses received 94115 response for query on GDM issue
  • Wall painting done at 1020 strategic locations
  • Print Media campaign covered 3.4 million readers on issue of GDM(IRS)

Qualitative Outcome

  • Government of Jharkhand, Punjab and Bihar initiated for mandatory screening of diabetes among pregnant women
  • Launching of Project nationally by Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Then Minister of Health & Family Welfare GOI
  • High Level Meeting on Linkages between MDGs, maternal health and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) with special reference to Diabetes’
  • National Forum on Gestational Diabetes and its Management in India
  • Component of diabetes included in Jaccha Bachha Raksha Card

Other Outcome

  • 7575 students participated in rally to celebrate Global Diabetes Walk with objective to sensitize people on diabetes in 2010-11 across project states
  • 9499 women screened on diabetes through organizing 143 screening/health camps
  • Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Shri Bansidhar Bhagat, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Uttarakhand, Dr. C.S. Yajnik, Director, Diabetes Unit, King Edward Memorial Hospital, Pune, Dr. V Seshiah, Advisor GDM Project, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, were some of the Key dignitaries present at the seminar
