With improved coverage and enrolment of children under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, the present challenge before the state is to most effectively use an innovative approach to sustain the interest of neo-literates. To address this concern, Jagran Pehel, in association with Bihar Education Project (BEP), initiated designing, printing and distribution of a newspaper for neo-literates, covering 17 districts and 23,000 primary schools in Bihar.
A total of 25 copies of this newspaper were distributed in the selected schools, every fortnight, for over a period of three years. This newspaper has the potential to become a powerful supplementary tool for generating interest and inquisitiveness among children. Considering its success, Pehel is trying to replicate its success in other states as well.
